Sensei Lavender hosted her Hanko-Ryu Inter-Schools Kata Championships on Sunday 28th November 2009 in Tolworth, Surrey. SKA's only representative, 8yr old Florence Wall of Alton, did tremendously well to win 4 rounds and take a silver medal in the orange belt section. She improved on her bronze from last year and did well to beat many older girls. Well done Florence!
Towards the end of the competition the SKA's demo team put on a kata / bunkai display. One of the members of the team, Sian Barton, had to pull out the day before due to sickness, which left the others under a lot of pressure to learn a new routine and Katie Pharo took on the mammoth task of learning a whole bunkai in just one lesson! On the day the team arrived early to practice and Sian came along to help Katie learn her parts. Thank you to the whole team: CHLOE PHARO, KATIE PHARO, ELLIE BARTON, MICHAEL HOLMES and LEWIS HOLMES for putting on an inspiring performance; nobody would have guessed what little preparation they had. Thank you to SIAN BARTON for the support she gave them on the day.
Sensei Lavender was once again very grateful and presented the demo team with a trophy each to say thank you. The feedback from the other school children was that they really enjoyed the demonstration and it gave them a boost to train harder!
