Wado-Kai England Kumite Course

At relatively short notice, 3 members of the SKA squad attended a kumite course in Wolverhampton on Sunday 20th July 2008, hosted by Wado-Kai England. The course instructor was Sensei Ticky Donovan, OBE, 8th Dan and instructor Sensei Winston was on hand to help out. The main bulk of the students were from within the Wado-Kai group but a couple of other clubs were in attendance to make the most of Sensei Ticky’s tuition and coaching. The SKA youngsters were by far the smallest, youngest and lowest grades, but this had a good affect on them as their concentration was superb and it really boosted their confidence being around older, talented karate-ka. The SKA is a very small club and the highest junior is 3rd kyu and 12yrs old, so to train with older, black belt athletes was a real privilege for them. Well done to EDWARD VAN MEERKERK, 9yrs, TONI SHERING, 7yrs, and LEWIS HOLMES, 5yrs, for having such commitment (and to the parents for taking them!). The course was over 3 hours long but they gave 110% from the beginning to the end and they definitely benefited from Sensei Ticky’s teaching.

After the course Edward, Toni and Lewis were lucky enough to have their licence signed by Sensei Ticky Donovan, OBE and a photo taken with him and Winston.
